- For Dal Fry:
- 3/4 cup Toor dal
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2.5 cups water
- 2-3 green chillies slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 2 garlic cloves crushed
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes finely chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- to taste Salt
- 1 tbsp kasuri methi
- 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 Juice of lemon
- For Jeera rice
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- to taste Salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds/ jeera
- 4-5 cloves
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- 1-2 tbsp ghee
- 1 green chillies finely chopped
- 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Instructions to make to make Jeera Rice and Dal Fry
- Let's begin with Dal Fry: Wash and clean toor dal
- Add cleaned dal to pressure cooker
- Add 2.5 cups water to dal in cooker.
- Pressure cook dal until very soft.
- Once steam is released, open lid and mash dal with ladle or potato masher.Keep it aside.
- Heat butter and oil in a pan.
- Add crushed garlic cloves and roast for 2-3 minutes.
- Add green chillies and ginger garlic paste. Saute until raw aroma disappears
- Add finely chopped onions
- Saute until golden brown
- Add in tomatoes, spice powders and salt. Mix well
- Saute until raw taste of Tomatoes disappear and it's tender
- Add in mashed dal. Mix well until dal is coated with masalas
- Add 1/2 cup water and mix well until well combined
- Simmer and cook for 5-6 minutes
- Meanwhile dry roast kasuri methi for few seconds
- Crush kasuri methi to powder
- Add crushed methi to dal and mix well
- Add lemon juice and mix well. Switch off
- Now let's starts with jeera rice Both can be prepared simultaneously. Clean and soak Basmati rice for 30 minutes
- Drain excess water and keep it aside
- Heat ghee in deep bottom vessel
- Add in all whole spices with bay leaf
- Dry roast spices until aromat and cumin seeds splutter
- Add in green chillies
- Add cleaned drained rice to the pan
- Saute rice for 2-3 minutes over medium heat
- Add water and mix
- Add 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste and mix well
- Bring water to boil, simmer, cover and cook until rice is done
- Garnish both Dal fry and Jeera rice with Coriander leaves. Serve hot with pickle and papad
